Galveston College Whitecaps Baseball All-Stars make the NJCAA Region XIV All Star Tournament Team. This course is designed for those who provide healthcare to patients in a wide variety of settings, including in-hospital, and outpatient settings. These healthcare providers may include (but are not limited to) physicians, nurses, paramedics, emergency medical technicians, respiratory therapists, physical and occupational therapists, physician assistants, residents or fellows, medical or nursing assistants or students in training, aides, and other allied health personnel. All participants who complete the course and pass the written exam will receive a BLS for Healthcare Providers Course completion card (credential), which is good for a two year period. The Heartsaver®- First Aid CPR AED course teaches students critical skills needed to respond to and manage a first aid, choking or sudden cardiac arrest emergency in the first few minutes until emergency medical services (EMS) arrive. Students learn skills such as how to treat bleeding, sprains, broken bones, shock and other first aid emergencies. This course also teaches adult CPR and AED use. The cost is $80, and includes a student manual. Class will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, November 2. For more information contact Continuing Education at 409-944-1344.
Galveston College Continuing Education is offering a Nurse Aide for Health Care Fast Track course. The course facilitates entry-level nursing assistants in achieving a level of knowledge, skills, and abilities essential in providing basic care to residents of long-term care facilities. High School Diploma or GED is required.
Clinical Site: Manor Care Health Services, 750 Texas Avenue, Webster, TX 77598. Students MUST wear burgundy scrubs to clinical. Clinical may be held during the day and/or weekends.
The Nurse Aide for Health Care Fast Track course will be held November 26 through December 11. Classes are held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. The cost of the course is $575. A required textbook and scrubs are extra. The State certification exam fee must be paid separately.
