A Galveston College Culinary Arts student carefully focuses his attention during a baking class in the Culinary Arts kitchen.
For the 2012 fall semester, Galveston College is offering a 1-year Certificate program in the ever-growing field of Culinary Arts. Besides learning the basics of a kitchen operation or essential food preparation techniques, students also become trained in basic nutrition, fundamentals of baking, sauce preparation (the saucier), international cuisine, American regional cuisine, pastry creations, and even restaurant Spanish! The certificate earned represents that the student has obtained both a basic knowledge of the business side of a restaurant operation, and has been trained and qualified for an entry-level cook position.
Prices are reasonable. The entire twelve month program averages less than $4,500 including: tuition, fees, lab fees, uniforms, a knife kit, and books. Financial aid and scholarships are available. Both day and evening classes are offered as well. For more information, contact Chef Paul Mendoza at (409) 944-1304, or Counseling at (409) 944-1220.
