The Galveston College Whitecaps Baseball player Jared Pinson is the recipient of the 2012 Rob Brasier Memorial Award, a cash award of $1,000 paid to the baseball player with the highest GPA. The award was established in memory of Rob Brasier by his family to honor his scholastic and baseball skills. Galveston College Chorale Spring Concert

The Galveston College Chorale will hold a spring concert beginning at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 6, 2012, at Moody Methodist Church. The choir will perform a variety of works including a couple of sacred hymns, an English Madrigal, American folk songs, a spiritual “Elijah Rock”,  the Righteous Brothers -  “Unchained Melody” and a piece from and old Broadway musical -  “Rhythm of Life” .

Law Enforcement Academy Host Bone Marrow Registration

The Galveston College Law Enforcement Academy will be sponsoring a bone marrow registration from 9 a.m. until noon on Monday, April 30, 2012 in the Galveston College Seibel Wing.

A bone marrow transplant is used to combat leukemia as well as other blood related cancers. To sign up, participants must complete a short information sheet and have the inside of their mouth swabbed. If a participant is found to be a possible match, they will undergo additional testing to check for compatibility.

Galveston College Student Art Show Opens May 1

The Galveston College Art Department will host the 32nd Annual Galveston College Student Art Exhibition in the third floor Fine Arts Gallery from May 1 through July 31st.
An opening reception will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 1.

The art exhibit features a variety of ceramics, paintings, drawings, sculptures, photographs and mixed media. For more information call Galveston College Art department faculty John Stovall at 409-944-1320 or Beth Thomas at 409-944-1309.

Music Recital Set For May 2

The Galveston College Music Department will host a Spring Instrumental Music Recital at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 2, 2012, in the Fine Art Building, room FA-207. The event will feature students from the College’s instrumental music programs. Admission is free and open to the public. Galveston College Early Registration Continues

Galveston College Early Registration continues for the 2012 May Mini semester, Summer I, Summer II sessions, and the 2012 Fall semester.  Early registration hours are 8 a.m. until 7 p.m. on Mondays and Tuesdays, and 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Wednesdays through Fridays. Mini semester classes begin May 14, Summer session I classes begin June 4, Summer II session classes begin July 11, and the Fall semester begins August 27.  For more information, call the Counseling Center at 409-944-1220.

Graduation 2012 Set for May 11

The 2012 Galveston College graduation ceremony has been set to begin at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, May 11, 2012 at the Galveston Convention Center at the San Luis Resort on Seawall Boulevard. Over four hundred graduates are expected to receive either 2-year degrees or certificates during the ceremony. The 2012 commencement is the central event of Galveston College’s celebratory 45th anniversary year.
