Galveston College General Assembly featured Dr. Rebecca Saavedra, Vice President of Strategic Management at UTMB, talking about the strategic planning process. Approximately 135 fulltime faculty and staff participated in the process as Galveston College personnel prepared for the 2012 Spring Semester and beyond.
Galveston College 2012 Spring Semester classes start Tuesday, Jan. 17. Late registration runs from 8:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. on January 17 and 18.

Galveston College announces an EMS Instructor Class for the Spring semester 2012. The class will meet from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Fridays starting Feb. 3 to May 9, 2012. Galveston College is offering a Paramedic Recertification course online. The class teaches theory and skills necessary to meet national and state requirements for remediation or recertification as a Paramedic. Prove competency in emergency medical care to patients at the Paramedic level; and continue to display professional and ethical behaviors expected of emergency personnel. This will be an online course. Textbook not required.
The course runs from Jan. 18, 2012 through May 9, 2012. Tuition is $375. For more information call 944-1494.
Galveston College is offering a Basic Computer class. This class is for individuals who know little or nothing about computers. The course will cover basic computer skills, the Internet, and e-mail. Classes will be held from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays starting January 24 through February 9. Tuition cost is $110. Senior discount applies.
The Medical Billing Specialist Certificate is designed to prepare students to work in the medical billing departments in a variety of health care settings including hospitals, medical clinics, and doctors’ office. Billing Specialists are responsible for collecting, posting, managing account payments, submitting claims and following up with insurance companies. Students can complete the certificate in two or three semesters. A High School Diploma or GED required is required to enroll in this program. Textbooks are required.
The following courses are required: Medical Terminology, Anatomy and Physiology for Medical Assistants, Computer Fundamentals for Medical Billing, Professional Workforce, Medical Insurance, Medical Administrative Support, and Job Shadowing.
