Galveston College Radiography students recently held a Food Drive to benefit the Salvation Army. The Galveston College Community Chorale will present a Christmas Concert at 2 p.m. on Sunday, December 11, 2011, at Moody Methodist Church located at 2803 53rd Street. The concert is free and open to the public.
Mike Gilbert will director and Ron Wyatt will accompany.
Music selections include: "Christmas Cantata" by Daniel Pinkham accompanied by College of the Mainland’s brass choir and jazz ensemble directed by Sparky Koerner, College of the Mainland Music Instructor. Other songs include "The First Noel", "There Is No Rose" - Ladies Chorus, "The Virgin Mary Had a Baby Boy" - West Indies Carol, and "Carol of the Bells".
The brass choir will also perform a piece.
Ron will also perform an organ piece.
The Galveston College Island Potters Guild will host their annual holiday sale of pottery and sculpture made by GC students. The one day sale will be held from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Wednesday, December 7th in the Galveston College Atrium located between the Regents and Northen buildings, on the main campus at 4015 Avenue Q. The Galveston College Music Department will host a winter recital featuring instrumental student musicians at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, December 7, 2011, in the Fine Art Building, room FA-207. Galveston College Whitecaps will hold their annual Athletics Spaghetti Dinner fundraiser from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Thursday, December 8, 2011. The event will be held in the Galveston College Sarah Hermes Memorial Fitness Center and Gym located at 4015 Avenue Q in Galveston.
Tickets are $10 per person and are available for purchase from any Whitecaps baseball or softball player, or by calling Regina Williams at 409-944-1202. Attendees have a choice of dining in or taking out. All proceeds go to the Whitecaps Athletic Fund.
The Spaghetti Dinner event has been assisted by Johnny Smecca and his colleagues at Mario’s on Seawall Boulevard for the last three years.
Early registration for the Winter Mini Semester is now in full swing at Galveston College. The majority of the Winter Mini-Semester courses are online beginning Friday, December 16, 2011 and ending Friday, January 13, 2012. The Winter Mini Semester courses offerings include Introduction to Computing, English Composition I and II, Texas Government, Introduction to Humanities I, Personal/Community/Health I, Introduction to Ethics, and a College Physics I (Hybrid) course which includes a face-to-face lab that will meet during the final week of January 9 – January 12, 2012.
Contact your instructor and purchase books before 3 p.m. Friday, December 16, 2011, as the Bookstore closes at 3 p.m. that day, and the main campus closes at 5 p.m. for Winter Break. The College reopens at 8 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2012.
Early registration for the 2012 Spring Semester continues through December 16. Early registration hours are from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Mondays and Tuesdays and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesdays through Fridays. The Credit Class schedules and the Continuing Education Guide is now available online and in printed versions, at various locations throughout the campus.
