Construction continues on the Beacon Square project at Galveston College. The base of the lighthouse will be surrounded by bricks-each engraved with the names of donors who have supported this Beacon Square project. Contractor for the project is J.W. Kelso. Work is expected to be completed early this fall.
Set with the theme “The Ultimate Road Trip! Destination: Success”, Galveston College’s student orientation begins Tuesday, July 25. Required for all new, full-time students registering for credit classes and recommended for part time and continuing education students attending the upcoming Fall Semester, Galveston College will offer three orientation sessions. Each session will be held in Room FA-207.
Refreshments will be served 30 minutes prior to each session. Free child care will be provided on a space-available basis for children 18 months to 12 years. College placement testing is required to determine placement in courses. Students who have already met the requirements for placement assessment will not be required to take the COMPASS. Prior to orientation, Galveston College will offer COMPASS Test Preparatory Workshops for the COMPASS Test. Each workshop for the COMPASS Test will be held in room R-259 on the following dates:

Offered exclusively to incoming 7th, 8th, and 9th grade students, the Galveston College Whitecaps 2006 Volleyball Camp will be held July 31- August 3, from 8.30am-11.30am at the Galveston College Hermes Fitness Center, 4015 Avenue Q. Participating students will learn and practice with the Galveston College Whitecaps Volleyball team. Instruction will include passing, setting, hitting, and blocking. Galveston College coaching staff and team members (including alumni of the Whitecaps program) will provide instruction during the 4-day camp. Advance registration is $75 (cash or check). A $10 fee will be added to registration if done on site. An injury liability waiver prior to participation is required. Early registration for the upcoming Fall semester will be July 31-August 10, from 8am-6pm, with payment deadline for early registration –August 18. Open registration is August 22-24, from 8.30am-7pm; August 25 from 8.30am-1pm. Both early and open registration will be held in Moody Hall, main campus, 4015 Avenue Q. To acquaint new and returning students about all of the support services available at the Learning Resource Center (LRC), a special Open House and Expo will be held on Thursday, August 31, from 9am-7pm. Galveston College’s Learning Resource Center (LRC) is a resource center and much more. With a mission to provide academic and support services to the student learner through instructional technology, resources and outreach, the LRC offers a wealth of services and support. Located conveniently on the first floor of Regents Hall (main campus, 4015 Avenue Q), the LRC houses the David Glenn Hunt Memorial Library, Cyber Café, Computer Lab, Testing Center, Tutoring Center, Media Services, as well as additional resource materials and services.
